Fix a session that will not resume

Read why a row in the New Session screen's Resume session view is blocked, or why picking one failed.

A row in the New Session screen's Resume session view will not let you pick it, or a pick has failed.

A row greyed out before a press names why, in place of the usual time. "Directory gone" means the folder no longer exists. "Engine not ready" names what is wrong with that engine, and "already open" means the session is open elsewhere already. None of these three take a retry — the row states why picking it would not work.

The list itself can also fail to load, showing "Could not read this folder's earlier sessions." next to a Retry control. A click on a row that does load can still fail, surfacing as a red message near the form. That message either names the underlying reason, or falls back to "Could not restore this session." or "Could not adopt this session.".

See Resume a session for the column this guide is troubleshooting.
