Update the game engine
Take a newer game engine that Turret has downloaded, or check for one now, without restarting Turret.
You use Game mode and want its newest tools and prompt, or a band over the game pane says a new game engine is ready.
The game engine is the part of Game mode that updates apart from Turret. It holds the game and effect hosts, the game tools and prompt, and the game skills. Turret downloads a newer engine in the background and starts it only when you press Restart engine.
- Look at the band under the tab strip of a Game session. When a download has finished, the band says a game engine is ready.
- Press Restart engine in the band. The band reads "Restarting the game engine…" and the transport controls dim.
- Wait for the band to go. A game with a single peer is at the tick it was at before the restart. A game with several peers is at tick 0.
- Read the last row of the game's Events list. It says the engine was restarted and where the game is now.
Settings has the same button, in the Game engine group on the General tab.
The restart does not change sessions that are already open. A session keeps the tool list and system prompt it started with. A tool the new engine removed answers with its name when the session calls it. Open a new Game session to get the new tools.
To check now instead of waiting, open the Game engine group on the General tab of Settings and press Check for updates. The group shows the download's progress and says when the engine is ready.
When the band says something else
- If the band says the game engine stopped unexpectedly, every game stopped with it. Press Restart engine, and each game loads again from its last binary at tick 0.
- If it says Turret could not start a game engine, Turret went back to the engine it had, and your games are as they were. Press Check for updates in the group to fetch the new engine again.
- If it says Turret could not use or could not download a game engine, the download failed and Turret deleted it. The running engine is unchanged. Press Try again in the band or the group.
- If it says a game engine needs a newer Turret, Turret downloaded nothing. Update Turret to take it.
The ✕ on a band hides it for that version. Settings still shows the state.
